Neuroscience Of Desire

Friday... In the studio this evening cleaning up. I had a bunch of screens that needed to get cleaned out for use in some new projects. Set up my new 9" band saw as well... nice tool, can't wait to start using it. Several different open projects to choose from once I get things straightened up again. October made a bit of a mess in here.

11:01 PM ~ Jamming out to the b-52s record WHAMMY! and cutting some donut frame pieces. Gonna start glueing them up so i can get them out of the way... and so they are ready to use when I get around to donuts again. Also looking into my dimensions for the Thurston Moore pieces.

QUICHE LORRAINE YEAH!

Nancy's on speaker phone talking to someone else on another phone. But I think she is talking to Marylin Monroe actually... no seriously. They are talking about something they ordered together and apparently Marylin knows how to text people.

Let Who Made Me Believe

Figuring out the Thurston Moore piece. Forgot I had my bucket full of broken and worn down drum sticks. Going to do this piece as a real functioning electric guitar when I get it going.

Expectations Are Almost Ready

-
All we've got left is to wire up the electrical and we have a functional UV light exposure table ready to burn some screens.

You Know I'm One At A Time

Working on a set of Amy Winehouse postcards. I've had these in the works since last year when she was on the cover of the Sun with photos of her smoking crack. Fun stuff that crack. While I'm not interested at all with Amy as a performer... I'm totally interested in her as a train wreck.
-
Yeah there are also a large amount of du=onuts in pre-production as well again.

Sometime Between An Easterly Trajectory

Working on a new set of prints - 3 sets of 5. The series is based on my feelings and impressions of the G20 summit. Currently putting them together... there are several more layers in each of these prints still.

I'll be offering works like these and similar items in the store by the end of the month. the goal is to offer a new limited set of original prints each month based on some relevant timely topic.

Still Standing And Newly Broken

Ahh fuck... studio issues... this is why dry wall and terribly placed studs are such a pain in the ass when it come to modern construction.

Fried On Current Issues And Topical Treatments

Back to the business at hand finally...
Began work again on my set of 10 Ham/Avacado paintings. Mounted the right painted/collaged portions to the base frames last night. This after I had painted them earlier with a mint green acrylic and then stained a truer green with a mixture of oil paint and a drying linseed oil.

I'm going to let the newly afixed portions set for a few days. Then, I'll add the over drawing outlines to each work and then it's off to the races. Need to find myself a nice spiral cut ham that isn't to large, but has thick enough slices that will serve my needs. Next, I'll need 10 ripe avacados so I can extract 1 large slice from the center of each and afix those to the base structure as well. Then the 10 pieces will be left outside in the sun & elements for a few weeks and I'll let nature take hold. Should be interesting.

Final steps include adding circuit boards, wires, lights and the growth vessels on the right side of the works.

Salmonella Tennessee-Contaminated Peanut Butter 2007

FDA widens peanut butter warning
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - All Peter Pan peanut butter bought since May 2006 should be discarded, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Friday in a statement broadening its warning about salmonella-contaminated peanut butter.

More than 290 people from 39 states have become ill in the food poisoning outbreak, and 46 have been hospitalized, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported.

ConAgra Foods Inc., which makes Peter Pan, said earlier it was checking the source of the contamination, which may have also affected the Great Value label peanut butter it makes for retailer Wal-Mart.

The FDA had said on Wednesday that certain batches of Peter Pan butter may contain salmonella and that all had a product code on the lid of the jar beginning with 2111.

The FDA said the suspect Great Value peanut butter also could be identified by the 2111 code.

The CDC has identified the strain of bacteria as Salmonella Tennessee, one of many strains of salmonella bacteria.

They can cause nausea, diarrhea and other ill effects, but usually the sickness clears up on its own in less than a week.

"Although Great Value peanut butter with the specified product code has not been linked by CDC to the cases of Salmonella Tennessee infection, the product is manufactured in the same plant as Peter Pan peanut butter and, thus, is believed to be at similar risk of contamination," the FDA said in a statement.

"Great Value peanut butter made by manufacturers other than ConAgra is not affected."

The FDA said it persuaded ConAgra to recall the peanut butter on Wednesday, shortly after the CDC confirmed it was investigating the outbreak.

"FDA laboratory personnel will analyze samples collected from the manufacturing plant," the agency said.

The last major outbreak of salmonella food poisoning in the United States was in November and was linked to tomatoes. It made 183 people ill in 22 states and Canada.

Every year, approximately 40,000 cases of salmonellosis are reported in the United States and about 600 people die of it, according to the CDC.

Consumer groups have been complaining about federal food safety efforts, saying the various agencies involved, including FDA, CDC and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, do not work together well enough.

"If we cannot protect the nation's supply of peanut butter, one must ask how prepared we are for a terrorist attack on our nation's food supply," Michigan Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak said on Friday.

"As Chairman of the House Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, I have already been working with Commerce Committee Chairman (John) Dingell to open an investigation into the adequacy of the FDA's efforts to protect our nation's food supply."

A Befuddled And Dismayed Youth Was Struck By A Blistering Truck Near The 128 Interchange

Major steps taken this evening. I finished painting the small bunnies in enamel white and afixed the 192 marshmellow peeps to the surface. I'm going to have to let it dry overnight and then the next step will be to set it ablaze at some point in the future.

I finished recoating 3 of my 'Adds' works with a fresh coat of enamel white and I did a bit of further editing-out on 2 of them. These are pieces that were concieved and developed back in 2002 and even though I pulled them for the show as is, I decided that they really needed a bit of freshening up. I'm really happy with they way they turned out with the new enamel.

Perfectly For Years The Struggle Of All Fears

Nonpareils are in full effect. Bitting on the freshy laid 'test pattern' for two of the large works at Sweet Tooth

Checkin' whos' got the goods-enough to become a 'Stripper'.

The studio at around 10:15 this evening.
The Music By Two At The Time:
SPACE IS THE PLACE...
SPACE IS GONNA DO ME GOOD...

So tonight is another studio night. Progress is evident throughout. Leeps and bounds on this eve. So progress report: There are currently 3 large works for the show and 1 mega work.. (welll it's justb that much more bigger.) This evening I built out the three large works box frames and primed them. There is a large Peep work in these three and with it, I began to paint its four color scheme - YELLOW>PINK>BLUE>PURPLE. The other 2 large works have been primed and are ready to have their frame edges treated. That should be fun... not sure how to go about it yet.
On the 'Donut' front, I took a few major leeps this evening into linking the actual donuts used with their real history via/v. the artists work cluttering his studio. It's hard to explain, but basiclly 4 of the real donuts vare related to their set of 4 - 5"x5" frames that they are being mounted to. The four box frames were originally designed as pedestals for a work owned by Newman from the 'Media Mail' series from 2000-2001. But they never made the final cut and were thrown from the work. They have a new life... they have a nice 'Donut-Glaze-Meets-Pollack' feel. The donuts are a set of 2 dozen that was purchased years ago by Newman and other Atlanta locals on Sunday morning. Perfect fit. The work will attempt to be sold as one... but we'll see.
